We enjoyed the first three double-blind tastings, with Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir, so this year we’re giving ourselves a real challenge by trying this with a white wine, one that BC does very well – Riesling! Come join us on Friday, March 10 as we taste a dozen very special expressions of the Riesling grape. Our speaker, Fort Berens Estate Winery owner Rolf de Bruin, will lead us through this unique tasting. What’s a double-blind tasting? It’s where all the wines are wrapped in paper bags and poured in random order – even we, the organizers and pourers, will not know which wines are which. Why Riesling? Riesling does very well in cool-climate viticultural areas. Famous growing regions include Germany, Austria, Alsace, and Australia. Many fine examples also come from Washington, Oregon, and the East Coast of North America. Here in our lovely province, we have so many wineries that make delicious Riesling that our hardest decision was which ones to choose! If you’ve never been to a blind tasting before, why not make this your first one? It’s fun to think about what you’re seeing, smelling, and tasting, and why you like or don’t like what’s in the glass. So far, BC’s wines have come first every year – let’s hope we can keep that up! In addition to a good selection of BC Riesling, we’ll be pouring a few international ones, too. Don’t worry – we won’t ask you to decide which is which! All you have to do is tell us your five favourites. We’ll add up the scores and announce the winners that evening – the wineries are already wondering how they’ll do! Important things to note:
